  - [GitLab’s Public Holiday](/handbook/people-group/time-off-and-absence/time-off-types/#public-holiday) policy provides each team member with a public holiday balance to use flexibly to celebrate what’s important to them and must be used within that calendar year. Unused public holidays will not rollover to the next calendar year while on parental leave, unless statutorily required by law.

- Coverage planning: We expect all employees taking parental leave to work with their manager to develop a strong coverage plan before they start their leave (when possible). If you would like support with coverage planning - or other career and transition support - check out Parentaly.

- Use within child's first birthday or first anniversary of adoption

- Flexible scheduling - take all at once or split into up to three segments

- Runs concurrently with statutory benefits where applicable

**How to Apply:** Submit your request through Workday and notify leaves@gitlab.com. Start the process 4-6 weeks before your due date or adoption date.

Parentaly helps you build a strong coverage plan, transition work effectively, and return to work with confidence. You’ll gain access to templates, a personalized toolkit and materials, plus 3-9 sessions with a dedicated Parentaly Expert (before and after your leave) who has supported hundreds of others through parental leave. - Participants should sign up before starting their parental leave (though you can also join while already on leave or early upon your return)

- You’ll be matched with a Parentaly Expert and all your conversations and work will be confidential 

- You’ll also receive a personalized checklist to build your coverage plan quickly and effectively - setting you and your team up for success

- Upon return, your Parentaly Expert will help you navigate whatever challenges or priorities are top of mind - whether that is ramping back up, pursuing a promotion, getting to know a new manager, or anything else that comes up in this transition 

- The program cost is funded under your [Growth and Development benefit](/handbook/total-rewards/benefits/general-and-entity-benefits/#growth-and-development-fund)
