Improve MAU definition

Discuss and improve MAU definition:

  • currently includes only Audit Events - should we include audit events for users who never confirm their e-mail? As the article states, which is my view, we should be careful of minimalistic definitions and actually figure out the right definition with data https://amplitude.com/blog/2016/01/14/measuring-active-users
  • we should include all https://docs.gitlab.com/ee/api/events.html for MAU starting June
  • in the future we should include any clicks or interactions with the product (see proper SMAU reporting)

Twitter We define monthly active usage or users (MAU) as Twitter users who logged in or were otherwise authenticated and accessed Twitter through our website, mobile website, desktop or mobile applications, SMS or registered third-party applications or websites in the 30-day period ending on the date of measurement. Average MAU for a period represent the average of the MAU at the end of each month during the period. We believe that mDAU, and its related growth, are the best ways to measure our success against our objectives and to show the size of our audience and engagement going forward, so we will discontinue disclosing MAU after the first quarter of 2019.

Spotify's We define MAUs as the total count of Ad-Supported Users and Premium Subscribers that have consumed content for greater than zero milliseconds in the last thirty days from the period-end indicated. Reported MAUs may overstate the number of unique individuals who actively use our service within a thirty-day period as one individual may register for, and use, multiple accounts. Additionally, fraud and unauthorized access to our Service may contribute, from time to time, to an overstatement of MAUs, if undetected. We define Ad-Supported Users as users of our ad supported service. https://investors.spotify.com/financials/press-release-details/2018/Spotify-Technology-SA-Releases-Financial-Outlook-for-First-Quarter-and-Fiscal-Year-2018/default.aspx
