Purpose

Define a north star metric for the Create:Knowledge group for Design Management

What is a north star metric

The singular, most important, trackable action that can measures success for our group.

Our north star

In Design Management, there were two main areas we could evaluate: Creates/updates and views. We decided to go with the views because of the state of adoption and being Minimal. While the creation of new Designs is important, the views are the thing that will drive adoption throughout the app.

The two metrics would could consider would be visits to the Design Tab or Design View (when a design is in full screen mode).

We decided to to for Design Views as this can be influenced by the following upcoming features and strategies:

• Moving it to Core (more users see it)
• Removing the Large File System (LFS) requirement (more users can have the feature)
• Unfurling thumbnails of designs in issue descriptions, comments to drive traffic to the full screen view
• Perfecting the workflow coming back to Designs from email, todos and comments
• Showing designs on MRs so that there is more awareness around the original Design
