Lightning Talk: Let's Build Off-chain, Free, & Decentralized POAP
Topic
Lightning Talk: Let's Build Off-chain, Free, & Decentralized POAP
Description
Proof of Attendence Protocol (POAP) is a way to create fun event badges on Ethereum. But, there are some downsides: a centralized server holds the images and event info, minting on-chain costs money, and we can't tell if someone actually attended the event. But, we can change this - we can already create off-chain, peer-to-peer event badges for free, using tools like MetaMask! Come to the talk to learn how!
Hopes & dreams
My main hope is that my demo doesn't break fingers crossed :) . But seriously, I would love for people to take the code and run with it! It would be incredible to have websites to host the badges, as well.

Learn about Ethereum digital signatures, how to hash an image and sign a message, and discuss what needs to be on a blockchain and what can be shared directly with a peer.

- Explain what features POAP does and does have currently
- Demo creating a badge using Metamask to sign
- Demo verifying the badge

Relevant Experience -- share why you'll be great!
I'm a software engineer in the blockchain space who previously was the lead engineer on Agoric's smart contract framework, called Zoe. I wrote a piece about soulbound tokens (and why they should be off-chain signed messages), and have been part of a resulting discussion with Vitalik Buterin, Puja Ohlhaver, and Glen Weyl. DIDs and VCs have also been getting a lot of attention recently, so I think there's a lot to discuss!
