🏛️ About Me

Research Assistant and PhD Candidate in City and Regional Planning, Dokuz Eylül University — working where computational spatial science, GIScience, remote sensing and operational urban resilience meet.

A plan is only as good as what a municipality can actually run on Monday morning. So the question I keep returning to is a practical one:

Which parts of planning can be made reproducible — and what does a city gain in resilience and equity when they are?

That takes two forms. Research: evacuation accessibility, seismic road-network vulnerability, urban heat and green-space equity, flood mapping, computer vision for walkability (SAM 3), multi-objective infrastructure optimisation. And tooling: PyQGIS plugins that put those methods in a planner's hands, where they are run by people who will never open a notebook.

🗺️ Research Pillars

Four lines of work. Each one starts from a question a municipality has actually asked, and ends in something that can be re-run on another city.

🛡️ Resilience & Disaster Risk

When the network breaks, who cannot reach safety?

Evacuation accessibility, seismic road-network vulnerability, post-disaster routing and multi-hazard decision support.

Methods · NetworkX · OSMnx · graph accessibility under shock · F-BWM prioritisation
Output · assembly-area siting and a ranked list of the links worth retrofitting first

🌡️ Climate-Sensitive Analytics

Where is the city hottest, and for whom?

Multiscale urban heat vulnerability, Local Climate Zone modelling, forest-cover dynamics and adaptation diagnostics.

Methods · Sentinel-1/2 · Landsat · LCZ classification · MGWR · SHAP
Output · heat-vulnerability surfaces with the drivers made explainable, not just mapped

🌳 Spatial Equity & Green Infrastructure

Is the park within reach, or only nearby on the map?

Park service areas, green-space accessibility justice, microclimate cooling regulation and distributional equity.

Methods · network service areas · landscape structure metrics · equity indices
Output · who is served and who is not, at the block the decision is made on

⚙️ Planning Automation

Can a planner run this without writing a line of code?

PyQGIS plugin ecosystems, CAD-grade planning tools, parametric settlement generation, automated zoning production and spatial database design.

Methods · PyQGIS · Processing providers · PostGIS · headless test suites on two QGIS runtimes
Output · 27 plugins on the QGIS Plugin Hub, each gated before release

🧬 PhD Dissertation

Multi-Objective Optimization of Urban Service Facility Location

Where public services should go, settled by evolutionary optimisation (NSGA-II) and network routing rather than by rule of thumb — holding cost efficiency, spatial equity, environmental sustainability and system resilience against each other at once, rather than optimising one and calling the rest a constraint.
