Database support for downhole structural data
Xplordb is required to support downhole data according to the following standard:
-
Domain
: depth only -
Extent
: any -
Type
: polar and spherical (to be implemented) -
Subtype
: in the case of spherical type only -> line and plane
The polar data data type related to vector orientation in Polar coordinate systems, defined with an angle (theta) and a length (r). The length is assumed to always be equal to 1.
The spherical data type relate to vector orientation in Spherical coordinate systems, defined with two angles (phi and theta), a length (r), and polarity (0,1). The length is assumed to always be equal to 1.
The reference for the angles is that of standard geographical measurements:
- Grid azimuth, circular from 0 to 360 degrees -> applies to polar data.
- Dip, semi-circular from +90 to -90 degrees -> applies to spherical data.
