Smaller platform
A few fixes, mostly related to Python 2 and 3, shaving ~150MB off of a checkout of the Platform:
$ du -sh platform.master/
1016M platform.master/
$ du -sh platform.e5002fb/
866M platform.e5002fb/Part of #41 (closed)
