Portal: Need to determine what user should see upon clicking Private Projects - current behavior seems inconsistent

It's unclear what should happen for Private Projects - what details, if any, should be displayed to a user.

Currently, private projects seem to be displayed on the Community Projects page. Clicking on these projects, loads the project details page without any errors. However, doing a browser refresh, for this same page that has already loaded and is visible to the user, presents a "this project is private" message for a few seconds, before loading the same project details page again.

  1. Go to portal.fieldnet.org or fkdev.org

  2. it doesn't matter whether you login or not - the behavior in both cases will be the same

  3. Without logging in, you'll be taken to the Community Projects page.

  4. Click the NYC FloodNet project - the project page loads as expected

  5. Click the browser refresh icon, and you'll see a message saying "This project is private - you do not have access to view this project"- but, then this message disappears in a few seconds, and the project details page displays again.

.

See attached screenshots - displaying the issue.

It's unclear what details should be shown when a project is private. If a private page message must be displayed, then the message should display anytime the user clicks on the private project from the Community Projects page. Right now, the message only displays when the user REFRESHES the page, AFTER it has already loaded. Need to decide how to handle the display of private projects and their details. For the fkdev.org site, an additional message appears upon refreshing the page: "Something went wrong"
