How to debug tools from command line

I had some trouble getting custom slash commands to work from Gemini (command hangs) so I wanted to verify what happens when I call the gitlab-mcp binary directly. I did not quite figure out what was the right JSON to pipe to the command. Does anyone have a sample json message?
