Chemnitzer Linux-Tage 2026
## About you <!--These questions help us understand more about you and your participation with Fedora.--> * **Name**: Robert Scheck * **FAS username**: robert * **How do you primarily contribute to Fedora?** (2-3 sentences): I'm a Fedora packager since 2006, became over time time provenpackager and package sponsor. I'm a Fedora ambassador since 2007 for Germany, supported FAmA and became later an ambassador mentor. In the Fedora context, I attended 50+ physical events, mainly in Germany, some in the rest of Europe and one in India. ## About the event * **Event name(s)**: Chemnitzer Linux-Tage 2026 (english: Chemnitz Linux days 2026) * **Event dates**: 29 March 2026 and 30 March 2026 * **Event location(s)**: Chemnitz, Saxony, Germany * **Event URL(s)**: https://chemnitzer.linux-tage.de/2026/en/ and https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Chemnitzer_Linuxtage_2026 * **Event description(s)** (2-4 sentences per event): Since their inception in 1999 the Chemnitzer Linux-Tage have gained a reputation of being _the_ German FLOSS community event attracting more than 3000 visitors over a weekend in March. The event takes place at the faculty of computer science/information technology at the Chemnitz university of technology and countless volunteers make it happen. There are talks, demonstrations, live workshops, community projects and some companies who present themselves. The Fedora Project usually had a physical booth at Chemnitzer Linux-Tage each year since 2007 with the exception of mainly the years of COVID-19 pandemic. ## Requested support _NOTE_: The budget amount you request is a hard limit. If actual spend exceeds the requested budget, the extra amount will not be reimbursed. It is suggested to pad your requested budget with a buffer amount, in case of changing travel costs, hotel rates, etc. * **Support requested**: hotel * **Budget estimates**: 210 USD * **Travel expenses**: - * **Hotel expenses**: Hotel for FAS username @rapgro (booth staff), 3 nights (175 EUR ≈ 210 USD): * **Accessibility needs & requests**: No * **Other needs**: Aside of Fedora-branded swag, swag and swag, having again the Fedora event box (including the banner) from Brno would be really appreciated. ## This event & Fedora * **Are you a speaker or presenter? If yes, give the title and description of your presentation**: No, not this year. * **Are you an organizer or volunteer? If yes, explain your role**: No * **Why is it a good idea for the Fedora Project to have a presence?**: Because it's one of _the_ FLOSS community events in Germany (the other one is FrOSCon from my point of view), where mainly users, but also developers, from all over Germany come together. The event targets users, not developers, but users can become developers or contributors over time. Usually all common/large Linux distribution communities attend the event with a booth, while it might be not a good argument. Visitors are looking for somebody to talk about Fedora in person and to raise their questions they might not raise online. Aside of this, people are also even looking for a Fedora booth (see next section for details). * **Why do you want to represent the Fedora community here?**: Because I really enjoy this event, the people there and I like to help them with all the questions and issues they come up with - and I'm a Fedora ambassador. I wouldn't drive 2x 450 km by car (2x ~5 hours plus traffic jams) about each year if the event wouldn't be worth it. And I'm attending the event, with or without a Fedora booth. When I attended in 2023 and 2024 as a regular visitor without a Fedora booth (unfortunately not enough Fedora people, due to different reasons, to cover the organiser's requirements for a booth), I was really asked often in both years why there is no Fedora booth and whether there will be one again. * **Are there others in the Fedora community who could help this event be successful? If yes, name any key individuals, teams, or SIGs in the Fedora community needed for success**: No ## Other * **Is there anything else the Fedora Mindshare Committee should know when reviewing your request?**: No <!--DO NOT EDIT BELOW THIS LINE!-->
