Proposal: add a section to Fedora docs for common troubleshooting steps for ostree-based versions
The Fedora IoT project received a question on IRC about problems adding a user to a group when using Fedora IoT. This can be a common problem for ostree-based versions of Fedora and I pointed the user as the Silverblue docs for this issue (https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fedora-silverblue/troubleshooting/#_unable_to_add_user_to_group). The Fedora IoT docs will be updated to call out this problem and link to the existing Silverblue documentation in this case.
However, I can see how this could be problematic, as we may end up with additional ostree-based Fedora versions in the future and the proliferation of docs for these common problems/use cases may be difficult to manage.
I think it may be useful to identify certain use cases or problems like the one described above, and attempt to centralize the documentation for these items under a new section of the top-level Fedora documentation. This could help eliminate duplication, reduce the chance of docs errors across versions, and improve the maintainability of the docs overall.
Examples of documentation that may be able to be consolidated:
- Fedora CoreOS "Troubleshooting" - https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fedora-coreos/
- Fedora Silverblue "Troubleshooting" - https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fedora-silverblue/troubleshooting/
- Fedora Kinoite "Troubleshooting" (shared with Fedora Silverblue) - https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fedora-kinoite/troubleshooting/
- Fedora IoT "Administration Tasks" - https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/iot/admin-tasks/
I would like to hear if others feel this would be useful or if there are different ideas we should be exploring for this kind of problem.
