Logo request: Fedora Messaging et al
# Design Request ## What do you need? A logo (icon) for each of the triad of related internal tools: * Fedora Messaging * Datanommer * Datagrepper It would be incredible if they somehow fit together, either physically or thematically. ### Graphic Design / Artwork - [x] A logo design - [x] An icon - [ ] An infographic/chart - [ ] A template or design for printed materials - [ ] Swag design - [ ] Graphic design not covered by the above ## Problem Statement These logos would be very helpful in slide decks and diagrams for discussing our technology. Visual quality / branding is not high priority. Examples where these logos would be used: * We are currently doing a lot of technical work around this set of internal tools, which includes collaboration with external entities such as Linux Foundation. Icons would facilitate that collaboration and possibly bring in more Fedora contributors. * I'm putting together a presentation for Release Party F43 to talk about this work. * We don't have many internal architectural diagrams for our infrastructure documentation. These would facilitate creating some. Here is an overview of how these products fit together: ![overview.jpg](/uploads/5b472e175391ca8ff0a0d2a7fb583504/overview.jpg){width="787" height="720"} * Fedora Messaging is a system that receives messages from many different places and "routes" them to where they need to go. For example, if someone makes a code change on Github, we get a message and then send it to systems that need to process that code change. A single message might go to multiple interested parties. * Possible analogy: Fedora Messaging is like the postal service, or at least the sorting facility. * Possible visuals: arrows going to multiple destinations; a "town crier"; a "sorting machine" with different color boxes coming in on one belt and going out on multiple belts dedicated to each color; a prism. * Datanommer is a service that basically records the entire history of Fedora Messaging into a database. There are lots of reasons we want the history, including to troubleshoot our systems (did we get the message we thought we should get?), and to perform analysis on those messages (which user sent the most messages in July?). * Possible analogy: a scribe / historian. Or maybe Santa Claus / elf on the shelf  . * Possible visuals: a simplified "mouth" somewhat like the famous "lips" logo but chomping with comically huge teeth, maybe eating a stream of 1s and 0s; Pacman; a hay baler, scooping up strewn hay and making nice neat cubes; a pencil writing graphed data like a seismograph or polygraph into a giant medieval-style spool. * [Datagrepper](https://apps.fedoraproject.org/datagrepper/) is a public interface to the Datanommer database, where anyone on the internet can query for data. It is generally the only place where humans interact with the data. * Possible analogy: Librarian; magnifying glass finding needle in the haystack (the "1" in the pile of "0"s?); a retail store with data on the shelf. ## Contacts @fedora-mwinters on Gitlab, @/mwinters :fedora.im This request falls under the CommOps team, but the logos will make their way into the apps. ## Deadline It would be amazing to have anything at all (even sketch!) in time for Release Party F43, but that's incredibly short notice: **November 13**. Otherwise, there is no deadline. ## Who will benefit? Fedora contributors and external audiences. This work is happening in collaboration with other groups such as Linux Foundation, so a visual would facilitate that collaboration. ## Priority/Severity <!--Delete as appropriate. The priority and severity assigned may be different to this !--> - [ ] High (This will bring a huge increase in performance/productivity/usability cover) - [x] Medium (This will bring a good increase in performance/productivity/usability) - [x] Low (anything else e.g., trivial, minor improvements)
