Discussion: should we move to google meet and utilise gemini for note talking?

This is a ticket to track the pros and cons of moving from Jitsi to Google Meet. We can also discuss any points at the weekly meeting too, but this gives people a chance to gather their thoughts and discuss async. Everyone is free to participate!! Please leave your thoughts/concerns/opinions in the comments.

Problem Statement

We are currently using Jitsi for our weekly design calls since it aligns with Fedora open-source values. However, some members have noted that Jitsi crashes on mobile. Since some members work at Red Hat, we can make use of a business tier Google Meet account. It would be more stable for mobile users. We could also benefit from using the integrated Gemini note-taker, as at the minute someone does this manually, but doing so hinders their ability to participate in the conversation. Gemini's notes would also be more detailed. The main drawback is that it is proprietary and uses AI.

The main things to think about:

  • Is if the ease of use and note-taking ability is worth the move away from an open-source tool?
  • Are we comfortable with the use of AI during our meetings?

Deadline

Ideally, have this ticket discussed and closed asap - maybe two / three weeks?

Who will benefit?
