F40 Release Party: CHAOSS badging

Summary

Submit the next Fedora event, the F40 Release Party, for review in the CHAOSS events badging program.

Background

Originally suggested by @spotzz in pagure::fedora-diversity#232, the CHAOSS Project has a Diversity & Inclusion event badging program. Any event organizer can submit their event for review, receive feedback from a team of reviewers, and if accepted, receive a badge to recognize the event's focus on DEI and availability of accommodations for diverse participants.

Fedora would likely meet or exceed the guidelines, although we may get insightful feedback on ways to improve from the review team. I believe the heavier lift for this task is submitting the initial application, responding to questions, and outreach about the certification once approved.

Details

This is a great task that any volunteer or contributor could assist with.

For going from start to finish, I think this is the scope of what this task would look like:

  1. Commence planning for F40 Release Party, get volunteers and helpers together, etc.
  2. Submit an application to the CHAOSS reviewer team about one month in advance of the event.
  3. Engage with reviewer team if questions come up about the event.
  4. Once the reviewer team approves and we receive the badge, complete these steps:
    1. Add the badge into event platform (e.g. Hopin, Fedora Wiki schedule, etc.)
    2. Write a Fedora Magazine post about our recognition by CHAOSS for the release party.
    3. Engage with Fedora Marketing Team to include this as part of our outreach for the release party (e.g. social media).

This is subject to change as we prepare to actually run through this process.

Outcome

  • Improved recognition of our efforts for accessibility and inclusion at Fedora events
  • Supporting a great neighboring community's efforts for promoting Open Source events organized with a DEI lens
