Please add key bindings for history search to .inputrc file
Please add a pair of key bindings to file:
~/.inputrc
(This file is used by the readline library and the bash shell to define key bindings.)
The following pair of key bindings search through the command history:
history-search-backward
history-search-forward
I find these two bindings to be very convenient, and they save me a lot of typing.
I attach a working .inputrc file (uploaded as: dot.inputrc)
with the above two search commands bound to the two keys:
page up key
page down key
This .inputrc file also has a second pair of key bindings, commented out, in case the page up and page down keys are not available, like on some laptops.
In that case, users can comment out the default pair, uncomment the secondary pair, then start a new bash shell.
These secondary bindings instead bind the two search commands to the keys:
up arrow key
down arrow key
Thank you, Damion
