Provide download link for F-Droid on older devices.
Given the repo metadata does not change structure very often, it seems like it would not be very difficult to highlight to users the last version of F-Droid which supports each API version.
I envision the following link below the download button on the main F-Droid webpage: "(Android version older than 2.1? Download older versions here)" or something similar. I originally thought that it'd be good to just dig up various stable releases which supported various minSdks, but that doesn't seem like a good idea. What I'd rather see is to have current F-Droid, and F-Droid legacy, which is essentially the dumbest, lightest possible version of F-Droid (v0.43) with bug/security fixes applied. That way, if anybody is unable to have F-Droid running on a 2.1 or earlier device, then they will be eligible to download the version which supports back to Android version 1.5.
I'd be happy to provide support for such a release, as I think it is important that even if people don't have all the bells and whistles, that they can still download apps from F-Droid.
I came to this conclusion after seeing that my preconceptions of India/China being the only place which makes use of such devices was broken. In Australia, a mate of mine still has a G1 running Android 1.5 or 1.6, and I commend him for not feeling the need to throw out a working device for the sole reason that a new one is available. I'd still like him and others like him to be able to use F-Droid.
