New Antifeatures: AI Usage
In this day and age of ever-spreading AI slop, I think vetting software against would be very helpful.
I'd like to propose the following antifeatures:
- AI-Generated assets: analogous to Non-Free Assets, this is to flag apps which use images/texts/sounds/etc generated by some kind of genAI
- AI Dependencies: analogous to Non-Free Network services, for apps which promote or depend entirely on some sort of AI service. This is for the entire new "AI Chat" category, other LLM frontends, and also any apps which try to run local AI models on the device. Unchecking this antifeature in the settings should also hide the entire "AI Chat" category.
- AI-Generated Code: somewhat similar to Known Vulnerability, this is to warn users about unsafe software which was partially or entirely generated by an LLM. Alternatively this can be combined with AI Dependencies, since the code depends on an LLM for it's development and maintenance.
While your mileage may vary, in my humble opinion, the usage of any type of so-called "AI" fulfills the definition of Antifeature. AI is being forced upon us by a few rich oligarchs, it harms the environment, it plagiatizes art, it enourages the usage of low-quality hard-to-mantain code, and it hinders our ability to buy and own hardware. In my opinion, "NSFW" is far less of an antifeature than this.
