During update, the Updates tab displays wrong information and/or gets stuck

  • Device OS and version: Android 9
  • Device model/manufacturer: Samsung Galaxy A10
  • F-Droid version (in the About screen): 1.7.1
  • F-Droid privileged extension version (if installed):

What did you do? (clear steps if possible)

The usual apps update after updating the repository.

What did you expect to see?

As soon as every to-be-updated app gets downloaded and installed, the app should disappear from the list in the "Updates" tab, and the app's entry in the "Settings -> Manage Installed Apps" page should display the correct info (app updated, latest version installed).

What did you see instead?

Often after an app has been updated, it is still listed in the "Updates" tab as to be updated, and its entry in the "Settings -> Manage Installed Apps" list still displays the old version as current.

So, the user can mistakenly download and install the same update twice; other times instead the "Updates" tab gets completeley stuck: clicking on the "Update" (or Download icon) buttons for any app does nothing at all.

Unfortunately all this happens in a random fashion, sometimes only for a few apps, sometimes not at all, so I can't be more precise.

Most of the times I have to force-stop f-droid, or reboot the phone in order to get f-droid acknowledge the correct updated status for all apps.

I haven't experienced the problem on my other two android devices, running android 8.
