Navigation on Android TV not working (same for cursor keys on keyboard)

• Device OS and version: Android 7.1
• Device model/manufacturer: Android emulator (or FireTV stick)
• F-Droid version (in the About screen): 1.3.1

What did you do? (clear steps if possible)

• Install F-Droid APK onto a Android TV image in the emulator via "adb install"
• Go to Settings -> Apps -> Downloaded apps -> F-Droid -> Open to start F-Droid

Do either:

• Open Android emulator settings/extended controls ("..." button on the side bar), select "directional pad".
• Click on the directional pad buttons

Or:

• Use the cursor keys on keyboard

What did you expect to see?

• Should navigate through the app, with at least essential functions like search and settings working/accessible

What did you see instead?

• Nothing happens, all input is ignored.
• This is likely also an issue for accessibility, anyone who is not able to use to touch to use their phone probably would also be completely unable to use the app
