Issue 7272 - Use the extension Promise API
This is issue #323 (closed) on gitlab.
I ran the following tests:
- npm run test
- ran the panels (popup, option, etc) manually checking for errors in the console.
- build a WebExtension with that code and ran it in a browser.
- ran the linter.
