Unpacked dev extension hangs 'extensions' process in Firefox
Environment
- OS version: Ubuntu 18.04, Windows 10
- Browser version: Firefox 88.0.1
- Extension version: release-2020-2, release-2020-1
- Last working version: TBD
Steps to reproduce
- Load unpacked extension through
about:debugging
- Open desktop options page
- Refresh desktop options page
- Open
about:processes
- (optional) Close desktop options page
- (optional) Remove the extension
Observed behavior
In Ubuntu, the extensions
process (in about:processes
) stays at 100% all the time even after removing the extension. In Windows the process stays at 50%-70% range.
Expected behavior
The process should use a low percentage of CPU and go iddle after closing desktop options page.
Further information
- issue won’t happen if we have the “inspect extension page” (about:devtools-toolbox?id=...) opened. But it will happen if we close such page and refresh the desktop-options page
- no problems with other pages: tested
updates
andfirst-run
pages - no problems with (packed) extension builds
- the
extensions
process goes back to normal only after restarting the browser
