Systemd based os ?

Im wondering why choosing systemd based os, while systemd is owned by redhat and no matter what is open source, it is so complex to track backdoors. For example sedexp was hiding for years until discovered last year. If eu really wants privacy and not to be tracked by cyberpolitical organisations, it should build its own linux based os or at least use custom kernel with customisable distro like gentoo where developer can protect system from any future possible security issues.
