Best Android Client to use in terms of battery usage

I would like to track my movement similar to google timeline, but with my own resources. Therefore I have used TraccarClient for like half a year, but the battery drain is like really high.

Has anyone experience with this?

I have also looked into Automate, an android app for device automation, but haven´t come up with a solution yet.

Google timeline creates GPS points only if necessary, f.e. if your phone is lying around for 2h there is no need to create a point, but if you are hiking a point every two minutes would be nice, if going by car, every 10 minutes would suffice, and so on
