External Mount - Slow performance directory listing

I'm having an issue with slow directory listing when using smb mounts on local lan (1Gig). A similar issue was already opened and since closed (#124 (closed)).

I would like to make a suggestion.

Could it be possible to only scan specific folders instead of all of them in order to increase speed? We could allow the user to add predefined search folders (one or more) that contain the GPX files.

My SMB mount is 8To at 60% full with many small files. It also hosts the GPX files, so I can't disable "Search External Mounts" option in GpxPod. Therefor limiting the search to only a few folders seems like a good idea.
