No line breaks in \highlight environment

Hi,

when using the \highlight command for a longer sentence no line breaks occur, the line runs out of the page. This only happens with the standard setting highlightmarkup=background , with the option highlightmarkup=uwave there is no problem.

For an example see the attached file test.tex.

I am using version 3.1.1. from TeX Live.
