Support to incorporate WRF-SFIRE into EESSI

I'm Angela Rivera working for Meteogrid within the Hidalgo2 CoE.

I discussed the possibility of including WRF-SFIRE into EESSI with Kenneth Hoste during past FOSDEM.

Software name: As mentioned, the software is WRF-SFIRE, we are not the maintainers of this model but we have been using it extensively during the project.

Availability of software:

  • Is it a software update for a software that is already available in EESSI?
  • Is the software already supported in EasyBuild?
  • [x ] None of the above

Even if none of the above options fit, for the past year we have received support from the EPICURE team and have some EasyBuild recipes for a few HPCs. They can be found here: https://gitlab.meteogrid.com/public-access/epicure-hidalgo2-wf-easybuild/-/tree/main?ref_type=heads

We also have an installation guide that we wrote with the procedure that worked well for us when we where installing (compiling) in HPCs.

Pointer to documentation on how to test installation: the documentation contains pointers to this like checking the executables have been created, there's also a test in that documentation.

  • Whenever it's available (lowest priority)
  • Sometime in the coming weeks/months is fine (low priority)
  • In the coming days/weeks would be nice (medium priority)
  • ASAP, this is blocking my work (high priority)

  • WPS 4.4 -> This is necessary for preprocessing the data that is used to run WRF/WRF-SFIRE We are not certain of the compatibility between WRF-SFIRE and the latest versions of WPS.
