exhale produces corrupt bit-stream in CVBR mode a

exhale (of branch develop) writes an invalid bit-stream with preset a on the attached WAV file. This kind of issue has never occurred before with exhale, so I suspect the recent SBR related changes to be the source of the problem (which doesn't occur with any other preset). The bit-stream for preset a also ends up being larger than the one for preset b, which is clearly not intended. Any assistance (Valgrind tests, e.g.) is highly appreciated.
