Discussion: Should dmhub be deprecated?
I feel as though the dmhub script serves little purpose anymore and therefore should be removed from the repo.
Here's why I think we should remove it:
- It has no purpose
I would argue that because the makefile now makes the dmscripts just regular commands, it no longer serves its purpose of being a hub for all the scripts. The commandline is now the hub. The only reason it's still useful at all is if you don't want to install it with the makefile. But even so, just by doing bash script
or ./path/to/script/
, you get the same functionality as the hub.
- No one maintains it anyways
I don't maintain it. I never add my scripts to it when the repo updates. And neither do others. Currently dmhub is like 3 or 4 scripts behind. Why are we using a hub when no one puts effort to maintaining it?
- Who is the hub for?
The hub at this point really appeals to a niche that no one really fits in. Experienced users aren't going to use it, they will just run the script they want to with bash or by typing it manually. Normal people won't use it, they probably expect it as commands you run at the shell, not a hub script. And I feel like the people in between probably wouldn't use it either since a lot would still either fall into one end or the other.
Hope you understand my reasoning and if anyone has a justification for it existing, please let me know.
