Uninstall Quick Edit module by default
I find the Quick Edit experience to be very clunky. I think it's best we just disable that functionality.
From discussion in Drutopia Monday meeting 2018-10-01:
Thoughts roughly in favor of removing:
- Clayton asked Cathy in a very neutral way if she uses Quick Edit; she said it was confusing and she just used the edit tab.
- Drupal Core automatically enables Quick Edit in the install profile; we would simply remove it from the install profile
- If we disable it, we're probably also saying we are not supporting it in Octavia
- Reasonable to decide that it will take effort to make inline editing really work well, and that we don't want to put any resources into it, until such time as members clearly want it, and we have the resources to do a good job with it.
Thoughts more in favor of keeping enabled:
- The use case of editing a title in a list, or part of a teaser, seems like it could be really useful.
- Do we want to remove a feature we haven't had to put work into based on a sample of a couple people?
- For a bad typist it's great to be able to edit after publish quickly.
- We'll follow the two-step process and make the decision next week.
Tasks
-
@cedewey to see if there's research out there of usage or usability tests of Quick Edit in Drupal.
