Defining Smallest Valid Increments
Request Summary
AMIRIS currently lacks a definition for the smallest possible increment concerning its data, such as energy or price. This absence of clarity could lead to unwanted consequences, such as scarcity situations in the market clearing process due to deviations on the order of magnitude of 10^-8. Therefore, I propose to establish defined minimum increments, similar to the approach taken by EPEX for price (0.10 €) and energy (0.1 MW). Users should also have the flexibility to modify these defaults by adjusting a field in the scenario.yaml
file.
Given the far-reaching implications of this matter, it is crucial to thoroughly consider all consequences and determine the responsible agent in AMIRIS enforcing these definitions.
Use Case
By defining the smallest valid increments for price and energy (e.g., 10.4 MW at a price of 52.3 €), the market clearing process can be simplified. Furthermore, by using whole numbers instead of decimals, the potential for precision-related errors can be entirely eliminated, leading to further improvements.
