Should use "git am" instead of "git apply"

We don't want a giant commit containing hundreds of commits but a nice, traceable history is what we want.

I've changed that locally and it seems that most patches are already in a compatible format, except a few, where git am prints "Patch format detection failed."

Those patches would have to be fixed so they can be applied properly. Also the "Incrementals" patches are nice for testing if they apply properly, but afterwards the actual patches contained in that big patch should be used.
