RFC: (Not so) Hostile Takeover

Summary

Simplify governance by removing the „Project Lead” role and instead installing myself as the „BDFL” (Benevolent Dictator For Life)

As BDFL, I would still be able to appoint any Core Team member as a delegate to run any/all parts of Crystal Linux in the event of my absence (or if I abandon software dev altogether and take up farming like a lot of people have been doing)

Virtually everything else would stay the same

EDIT: Instead of remaining „For Life” per se, we’ll change BDFL/Project Lead ousting to be handled by a unanimous vote by Core Team

Benefits

• BDFL sounds cooler
• It would remove the need for „desperate measures” to enact major and necessary changes
• RFCs would be resolved and subsequently acted upon sooner

Drawbacks

• I would essentially be installed as a permanent dictator with no way of voting me out
• I would have the final say in everything, even if people don’t necessarily agree with me

Tasks

• Update Discord roles
• Update GOVERNANCE.md and subsequent documents

Alternatives

• Keep going as we currently are
