Error on Windows: 500 Status read failed: A non-blocking socket operation could not be completed immediately.

Often (although annoyingly not always) network operations on some (annoyingly not all) Windows machines will fail with the following error message:

500 Status read failed: A non-blocking socket operation could not be completed immediately.

The same script will work flawlessly on Linux.
