Covid20Timeline (World Map Visualization of the spread of the virus)
Describe your idea.
Covid20Timline ( https://s3.amazonaws.com/covid20.today/index.html )
A picture is worth a thousand words and a gif tells more than a picture
It is very important that every one of us know the virus, follow the guidline, and be precautious of the disease so that we can reduce overload of medical system and protect someone we love.
Therefore, I planned to make an infographic about severity of this virus around the world. I examined many infographics such as Google Map , HealthMap, John Hopkins and
( Google - https://www.google.com/covid19-map/ )
( HealthMap - https://healthmap.org/covid-19/ )
( JohnHopkins - https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/map.html )
I felt that
- Google Covid19-map is little bit static and does not show the spread of the disease along with the time
- HealthMap shows the progress but the circle does not represent the data well and the user cannot pick the certain date
- JohnHopkins has the most informative data with lot of numbers but it does not show the spread of the disease along with the time
In Covid20Timeline,
- The map shows the spread of the Covid19 in the timeline
- The user can click a certain country and get informed about the current data number related to Covid19
- The user has a control over the timeline and the user can stop, start the timeline and select the certain date like a remote control of the video
- The data is updated every 10 ~ 15 minutes
- It shows the overall data number around the world on the top banner
Which of the four categories for submissions does this address?
- Educate the Public on Covid-19
- Reduce the Spread of the Virus
What kind of backing would this kind of project need in addition to what's already being provided?
- AWS Serverless Backend (AWS Lambda, Gateway, RDS)
- Stacy and GP have more of technical background and we need designers to enhance UI / UX
What are open questions you need help with?
- Mobile Support; We are questioning ourselves whether it's possible to put the world map into small mobile screen. We are trying to make this data accessible but we have a question of "HOW" for mobile support
Planned Architecture (if you know this)
FrontEnd D3.js, React.js, Scss
Backend AWS Serverless Backend (AWS Lambda, Gateway, RDS)
AWS CloudFront
Data requirements
scrap the data periodically from https://www.worldometers.info/ World Case data
Short description of the benefits
- People become more precautious of the disease and be proactive to prevent the spread of the disease
- Covid20Timline combines the benefit of video (informative) and web (interactive) and people get access to more interactive infographic
