Videos have no sound

recently something must have changed on reddit, or the API. when playing a video it no longer plays sound. if the video originates from an external source(like redgif) sound works just fine. and i can verify that the video is supposed to have sound by using the "open externally" option in Stealth

the player does not show a muted icon, and changing volume does nothing. playing music while browsing and opening a video does not result in sound playing either(just to verify that audio is working as expected) and as stated, external sources like redgif, has sound working just fine. downloading the video, will also leave you with a video file with no sound.
