License of assets

I am preparing an update proposal for jag on OpenBSD to point to this repository. While auditing the licenses, I would like clarification on the license of the data files inside data/ because I am concerned about what can be redistributed.

Credits in the JAG Menu:

Thanks to the authors of graphics, icons and sounds, which are used under free licenses in the game.

data/schemes:

  • default: can't find license. by PixelMixer. shown on about page.[1]
  • kde-crystal and kde-nuvola: can't find license. by Paolo Compitelli.
  • the rest (e.g., futurama): ambiguous "freeware" license. by Fasticon.

The Fasticon website[3], now offline, read:

License Agreement:

If you want to use our icons in a commercial project, you need order a commercial license.

To use our icons of Freeware section in your software, web site or other projects, you need to maintain an active link to http://www.fasticon.com , with the link text: "Icons by: FastIcon.com". If you can’t or don’t want to place link back, please purchase a commercial license. Please, order 1(one) commercial license for each Icon set you want to use. Each license costs $24 USD.

The Fasticon themes (e.g., futurama) are "freeware" with additional restrictions.

Also, what are the licenses of:

  • data/bonus/*.png: shown on the about page[1]
  • data/sounds/*.wav
  • data/tools/*.png: shown on the about page[1]
  • levels/*.lpk

As is, it seems like it would be incorrect to redistribute any scheme other than the default. Although, I cannot find a citation for the default scheme's license other than the credits in the main menu of jag. The about page[1] does show schemes/default/block* item* and target*. The block* icons look a little different but this could be from updating. It does not show bg*.jpg con1.png however. This is some evidence supporting that the default scheme is under a free license and able to be redistributed.

There is a forum thread that I cannot load titled "Graphics under GPL? by Omega." [4]

All themes/schemes appear here.[2]

To upload designs, you'll need to enable LFS and have an admin enable hashed storage. More information
