As reported on https://bugs.debian.org/904082 , the background gradient seems to have an artifact. I have attached the reporter's background here: 
and exported a piece of it to xpm here:
so you can open the .xpm file in a text editor to see what is happening: the upper third of the screen is solid #B8C3D9 and the lower third of the screen is solid #5C6899 , and only the middle third contains a gradient, and it seems the user does see the switch between solid and gradient and does not like it. Perhaps there should be an option to make the gradient over the full screen?
