Photo Metadata ‒ Remove unless requested not to?
So, I just remembered that there is a terrible amount of data leaked from photos which have metadata encoded by the camera, such as location, time and other things like that. I think it would be wise if we stripped that metadata before putting images in our database, to protect our users privacy.
On the other hand, this could remove data such as copyright notices and author details, which may be wanted by the uploader.
I believe the best idea would be to have a way to manipulate these tags as part of the image upload interface, but that's a large goal at present. As soon as we support images, however, people could be uploading geolocation data without their knowledge, which concerns me.
How do you think we should approach this?
