Journey Mapping various government interactions
A journey map "is a visualization of the process that a person goes through in order to accomplish a goal" (see Journey Mapping 101).
There are lots of interactions that citizens have every day with their governments at all levels that can be improved upon and made easier for everyone, but in order to understand how to make things better, we have to understand these processes as they exist today. Journey mapping these processes is a great start to making better experiences for citizens and government employees.
Some examples of journey maps that could be developed for Blacksburg (or insert other government here):
- Applying for a construction permit
- Applying for a short-term rental permit
- Applying for a business license
- Learning when trash and recycling pickup occurs
- Paying your utility bill
- Countless others!
After a journey map has been created, we can take the next steps of working with the town and finding users to understand how to improve things.
