[Suggestion] Dropship game-mechanic....MAYDAY MAYDAY I'M HIT WE'RE GOING DOWN!!!
I have no coding experience but I predict this will be hard to implement but one can dream.
Summary (a quick, 1-2 sentence summary):
The dropship can be shot down by a mature or higher boiler, marines are able to repair the dropship and have it air worthy again. hold on I know this sounds improbable but I want to believe.
Details (how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):
In order for this to happen I suggest also the fallowing to make it make sense:
-Boilers have to "Look up" and shoot the DS, more chance to Damage and hit if it's doing a CAS run.
-Crash sites are pre-planned out similar to how Dropship invasions work. Crashes should be random in accordance to the pre-mapped area crashes(This sounds easy to me but I'm sure it's hard for mappers and coders but hear me out pls).
-Dropship can be damaged so PO has to go up for repairs if hit but not shot down.
-In the event that both initial DS's get shot down and not salvagable just off-screen replace them. (Fluff reason: Our troop Carrier has more than two DS's but limited PO's), Alternatively RO uses Cargo Points to bring one up from storage like most equipment.
-Pilots can give nicknames and DS's have their individual serial code. (help differentiate DS's)
-To minimize map clutter 2-4 DS's can only crash on the map the rest crash off-screen unsalvageable.
-(optional) More defenses on the DS since most likely the PO would be by himself defending the crash site
-Only those who Buckled on to a dropship chair may survive or have a higher chance of NOT getting injured or dying. (this helps justify the need to buckle up more often).
-In the event that the marines do make the crashed DS's flyable again but fail to secure it from Xeno's the Queen can use the dropship for an invasion this of course it a risk to both Aliens and Marines, for xeno's they may be under manned and young and not ready and marines since they may be unprepared and undermanned too.
-(Optional) Using some the preplanned crash-sites as actual landing sites but you need to activate a "Landing Beacon" for them which also requires power or restoration(can be destroyed by aliens but repairable). and it needs to be activated on sight to prevent meta rush landings. Only the PO is able to use these landing sites, meaning remote control only works for the orginal LZ's.
-No pre-panned Crash-site should be near any potential hives.

I'm very sorry I'm an idea man and no coding or mapping experience but I hope this isn't too impossible. or at least some of my ideas can be of interest.
