Review chart naming for Beta
Our chart/sub-charts have a couple strange behaviours as a result of the naming that we should investigate fixing.
The chart layout is as follows:
- gitlab-chart
- nginx
- redis
- minio
- redis-ha
- registry
- gitlab
- sidekiq
- certmanager-issuer
- gitaly
- gitlab-runner
- gitlab-shell
- migrations
- omnibus
- unicorn
- shared-secrets
Some things of note:
gitlab shows up multiple times even in this view. For example, if you included the gitlab-chart as a subchart in your own chart, you would have to set gitlab runner values by sending --set gitlab-chart.gitlab.gitlab-runner.blah
But on the opposite side of things, in a chart repo, these charts are not presented in a hierarchy at all. Meaning the lack of gitlab prefix on the unicorn and sidekiq charts could be very confusing to someone using the helm client to browse the gitlab chart repo.
We should investigate:
- Dropping the
gitlab
subchart, and renaming the top level chart to be gitlab -
add the gitlab- prefix to the charts that were previously under the gitlab subchart(we decided against this) -
Potentially use the helm subchart alias functionality to remove the prefixs when providing values to the top level chart(no longer needed)
