Ability to block Wi-Fi, cellular, and VPN data
In the App info screen, under Mobile data & Wi-Fi, CalyxOS currently has options for enabling or disabling the following:
- Background data: Enable usage of mobile data in the background (on by default)
- Unrestricted data usage: Allow unrestricted data access when Data Saver is on (off by default)
LineageOS extends the functionality to show three more options in this view:
- Wi-Fi data: Enable usage of Wi-Fi data (on by default)
- Cellular data: Enable usage of cellular data (on by default)
- VPN data: Enable usage of VPN data (on by default)
These options would also be useful in CalyxOS, as they give the user more control over how apps communicate with connected networks. Without root access, the only currently available way to selectively disable network access for apps in CalyxOS is through firewalls such as NetGuard, which uses an Android VPN service and prevents the use of an actual VPN when active.
