Logged-in users are tracked (because of missing peeking)
I know that currently there is no proper solution for this issue, so this issue shall serve as place for discussion and tracking the relevant MSCs.
I noticed that when you log in to one site for one article, you enter automatically all chat rooms of this site just by visiting pages. Example: I go to article A of a site and log in to write a comment. Then I navigate to article B but do not interact with cactus there. But in the Element client I can see that I also entered the chat room of article B. That's tracking your visitors, isn't it?
In the Cactus Comments Chat it was confirmed that this is due to the lack of peeking in the Matrix protocol:
as long as peeking doesn't work over federation, you have to join the room in order to see the comments if you're visiting using an account from another server
So to avoid being tracked I can think of just one solution: log in for leaving a comment on a site and then immediately log out again before visiting other posts on the same site...
MSC's that would help: e.g. MSC2753, see blog post MSCs We're Excited For
