Suddenly Remote Handbook does not build as intended

Providing a different baseURL for handbook breaks CICD

For my project, modifying the baseURL does not work as intended. It seems to either render the site without the book theme, or break the CICD pipeline all together.

  • setting baseURL = "https://mutual-information.gitlab.io/handbook" causes the CICD to fail.
  • setting baseURL = "https://mutual-information.gitlab.io/mi/handbook" causes the CICD to fail.
  • setting baseURL = "" succeeds in creating the hugo site, but with no book theme attached. Also links are not handled correctly. for example clicking the company link takes you to https://mutual-information.gitlab.io/company/ whereas it should take you to https://mutual-information.gitlab.io/handbook/company/

Steps Followed:

  1. Create a GitLab.com account
  2. Create a Group for your company or organization
  3. Create a new project in that group
  4. Set the new project as Import project and choose GitLab Export
  5. Download the handbook-project-export.tar.gz from this site.
  6. Name the project handbook or something like that
  7. Set visibility to public if you don’t mind the internet watching you build your handbook, keep it private otherwise.
  8. changed baseURL
