place taxation at fifty percent
The books have slowly slid into the theme of a farcical society, with unreasonable systems. I like the idea of presenting players with society's rules, telling them they need to do X, Y, and Z, and slowly make the situation less durable until they find an intelligent route around the system.
What paying a 50% tax to the guild?
Instead of paying the (dull and predictable) '1 silver piece' to the Temple of Beasts each session, they're suppose to pay half of the money earned to the Temple.
Half!
- Players won't want to pay,
- but wherever they sell those bodies, they have a chance someone will find out.
- They might sell secretly by spending Story Points.
Alt-Banks
To make matters worse, the Temple is pushing hard to act as a bank, or at least a safe-house. Every time a night guard dies in the forest, any coins they carry disappear, which causes major deflation problems, and gives far too much power to anyone with the mines which produce the raw material for coins.
So the night guards need to give something (and receive only half back).
