plot.matrices: are different scales used for style = "bars"?

Looking at a few examples, it looks like different scales are used when plotting several matrices simultaneously with the option "bars" (note: I renamed the option "bar" -> "bars" to be coherent with "bubbles").

If so (I'm not sure, I haven't checked the code yet), then what is the point of plotting the matrices jointly? I think this should be changed.
