Aslan (design technologist)
Intro
Hi, my name is Aslan, he/him. I'm one of the Austin DSA techcomm co-chairs. I joined DSA because I wanted to put my skills to use helping make the world better, and I believe that's done in large part by building better infrastructure. I joined NTC because I wanted to increase collaboration and cross pollination between our chapter and others.
What I know
I'm a design technologist so that basically means I'm a designer who knows enough code to be annoying to devs. I can do frontend web development, CSS/SCSS/HTML/JS/PHP, gulp/webpack/parcel, wordpress, bash/zsh scripting, and a little React and D3.
What I want to know
I'm interested in building up my frontend/react/vanilla-javascript skills and I'd like to eventually learn a little bit of Go and/or Python. I'm interested in functional programming and the syntax design of programming languages though I can't say I really understand either that much.
Personal projects of note
I forked the Seattle DSA's wordpress theme to create common-wp which is a wordpress theme that I built to be used by non-capitalist orgs for basic web presence purposes, built with a focus on modern web practices, extensibility, and ease of use for non-devs.
I'm also trying to build it up as part of a larger "org-in-a-box" project that I'm hoping to use for both DSA and other similarly aligned organizations.
