Vendor-locked to Chemspeed Technologies hardware?

Dear colleagues! Exploring this very nice piece of code I stumbled upon proprietary calls and interfaces which basically prevent me from doing anything unless I have the Chemspeed Technologies equipment at hand, right?

Thinking out loud into that direction, I assume, there are lots of the other (opened?) semi-industrial IoT standards that might be of heavy use in any automated lab. The first general example coming into my mind would be Bluetooth standard. Another narrower example is the LabVantage products used at the real industrial facilities, however there are dozens of other brands and names. What would be your vision on that in light of the further chemspyd development?
