Issue with Ambient display and notifications

hey guys, a question...if I turn off ambient display (I don't use it) the screen doesn't turn on when I get a notification (that option automatically gets deactivated if I turn of ambient display)...and if I turn on Ambient display I have an issue, where my screen turns back on once I turn it off via the power button...but if I turn off Ambient display that issue is solved....but I don't see my notifications...any ideas?
