Exploring Package Tagging Capabilities in apt-mirror
Hi, thank you for the apt-mirror rewrite. It helped us set up a local apt mirror and saved a lot of bandwidth during multiple client installations on our network.
[ Query ] Implementing Tagged Repositories for Efficient Client Installations :
Now, we aim to create a local apt-server with tagged packages for each client installation. This ensures that when different releases like Debian 12.4 and Debian 12.5 require different versions of a package, they pull the appropriate one during installation. We've experimented with maintaining separate repositories for each release or installation, like:
/var/spool/apt-mirror/debian12.4
/var/spool/apt-mirror/debian12.5
However, we want to avoid duplicating the same packages in different repositories to prevent wasting storage space.
Our preference is to add tags to existing packages and pull them based on these tags. If we can successfully manage separate repositories for each release version without duplicating packages, it would be ideal.
